LocalCircuits Privacy Policy

Local Circuits, Inc. · Companion to the LocalCircuits Terms of Service at https://localcircuits.com/terms

The short version

We collect what we need to run the fundraiser and to understand how the app is used, and nothing else. We do not sell your information. We do not ask for children's names, ages, grades, or photos. We never track your location in the background. Your school sees totals, never individual families.

The rest of this page is the detail.

1. Who we are

LocalCircuits is operated by Local Circuits, Inc.. This policy explains what we collect when you use LocalCircuits, why, who we share it with, and how long we keep it.

Questions or requests: support@localcircuits.com

2. What we collect

When you create an account. Your name and email address, provided through Google sign in or an email sign-in link. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic Google profile information, including your profile picture. We never receive your Google password. If you choose a password, we keep it only as a one-way hash.

When you join a household. Who is linked to your household, and which school your household supports.

When you buy a Circuit Bundle. The purchase, the amount, and which Passes you hold. We never see or store your full card number. Payment details go directly to Stripe.

When you use a Pass. Which Pass, which business, and when. If you choose to share your location when you open the Pass, we use it once to check how far you are from the business and keep only that distance. See section 4.

When you use the app. Standard technical information: device type, browser, approximate region from your IP address, pages viewed, and actions taken. Our security records also keep the IP address and browser details of sensitive actions, such as a purchase or a change to your account.

When you contact us. Whatever you send us.

When you fill in a form on our website. What you give us there: typically your name, email, phone, city, and the school or business you are asking about, plus how you reached the page.

3. What we never collect

No children's details. No child accounts, no child logins, and we never ask for a child's name, age, grade, or photo. LocalCircuits is for adults 18 and over.

No background location. We never track your location in the background. See section 4.

No card numbers. Stripe handles payment. We store only a reference to the payment; the card details stay with Stripe.

4. Location, specifically

When you open a Circuit Pass to redeem it, your device asks permission to share its location. If you share it, we use it once, in that moment, to check how far you are from the business, and we keep only that distance. We do not store the location itself, we never collect it in the background, and we never use it for advertising.

You can say no. If you do, the Pass still works and nothing else about your account changes.

5. How we use what we collect

6. Who we share it with

Service providers. Companies that help us operate. They handle information only to perform services for us, under contract, and may not use it for their own purposes.

ProviderWhat it does
StripePayment processing
GoogleSign in, and website and app analytics (Google Analytics)
VercelHosting, product analytics, and file storage
SupabaseDatabase hosting
ResendSending email such as receipts and account notices
PostHogProduct analytics, so we can see what works and what is broken

Schools and their nonprofit organizations. Aggregate reporting only. Bundles sold, dollars raised, participation rate, redemption and check in totals. They never receive a list of who purchased.

Participating businesses. The Pass you present, the name on your account, and a record of the Passes redeemed at their own business, so they can confirm a Pass and see how the circuit is going for them. They do not receive your contact information, your location, or your activity at any other business.

When the law requires it. In response to a valid legal process, or to protect someone's safety.

If our business changes hands. If Local Circuits is acquired or merged, your information transfers with the business, and we will require the buyer to honor this policy for information collected under it.

7. What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell, rent, license, or trade it, to anyone, for any purpose.

We do not currently share your personal information for cross context behavioral advertising, which is the kind of tracking that follows you across unrelated websites. If that ever changes, we will update this policy, tell you, and give you a clear way to opt out.

We do not give your school a list of who bought. Schools receive totals.

We do not use your check in history to advertise to you off our own app.

8. Advertising and sponsorship

Local businesses sponsor school circuits, and that revenue is part of what schools earn. We may use what we know inside LocalCircuits to show you sponsors that are relevant to you. That information stays with us. A sponsor learns how many families saw or responded to something. A sponsor never learns who you are.

Sponsor content inside LocalCircuits is chosen from what we already know, such as your school and your check ins. It is never based on what you do on other websites.

9. How long we keep it

WhatHow long
Account information24 months after your last activity, then deleted or anonymized
Purchase and payment records7 years, because tax and financial rules require it

When we delete an account, we remove your personal details. Some financial records must be kept, and those remain without your name attached to them.

Our service providers keep their own copies according to their own retention practices.

10. Your rights

If you live in California, you have the right to:

To use any of them, email support@localcircuits.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line. We will confirm we received it within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. We may need to confirm it is really you before acting on a request about an account; if someone asks on your behalf, we may ask for proof that you authorized them.

Anyone can ask us these things, whether or not they live in California. We apply the same standard to everyone.

11. Cookies and similar technology

We use cookies and similar technology to keep you signed in, to keep the service secure, and to understand how the app is used. We do not use them for cross site advertising. Most browsers let you block cookies, though blocking them may mean you cannot stay signed in.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals, because there is no agreed standard for what they mean. A Global Privacy Control signal is a request to opt out of sale or sharing. We do neither, so there is nothing to opt out of; if that ever changes, we will treat the signal as that request.

12. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable service providers. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires and as we would want to be told.

13. Children

LocalCircuits is for adults 18 and over. We do not ask for children's names, ages, grades, or photos, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Activity may be recorded under an adult household account if the account holder lets someone else use it. If you believe a child has created an account or given us information, email support@localcircuits.com and we will delete it.

14. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change, we will email you before it takes effect. The effective date at the top shows which version applies. Previously published versions are available on request.
